From fastest man to fiancé—Is Noah Lyles' proposal the feel-good story we all needed?

It is officially the season of love! After the unfortunate winds of misery that came after the 2024 Paris Olympics, Noah Lyles has decided to take the leap of faith. Lyles has proposed to his girlfriend, Junelle Bromfield. The two have been together for nearly two years now and, in that time, have seen everything from joyful moments to the best of vacations and, last but not least, the awful trolling for months. But the culmination is surely worth the wait!

Noah Lyles took it to Instagram, making the announcement official. Lyles was seen in a cozy setup in front of a fluffy pink heart that had the big question, “Will you marry me?”. If that wasn’t emotional enough, he went on to write, “To My Future Wife, I Will Love You Forever.” The fastest man of 2024 seems to have finally let himself slow down for love. The journey to slowing down, however, hasn’t been an easy one.

And the step to seal the deal comes amidst the continuing train of trolls! Since the 100m win Noah had at the Olympics, beating Kishane Thompson. The two have been targets for unfortunate hate from Junelle’s homeland, Jamaica. It got to a point where Junelle couldn’t return home because she was scared not just of her safety but of her life. Although Junelle has been an unfortunate victim of the homeland hate for a long time now. The same is not true for Noah Lyles; he, however, has had his fair share of hate. Yet, despite having faced the worst kind of trolling, Lyles seems unafraid in love as he goes down on one knee.

The two first met in 2017 through social media. The first date, however, did not go as planned. But Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield ended up being friends for nearly five years after that. It was not until 2022 that the flames of romance entered their equation. Once the two finally made it official and started dating, there was no stopping them. In a world where athletes often feel pressure to present a perfect facade, their ability to be real with each other has created a safe space for vulnerability.

As Noah himself puts it, “It has taught me a lot of patience, and I believe this is my best relationship ever.” But Junelle, however, had something different to say. “When we became friends, I told him that I liked him because of [his] brutal honesty. That’s what drew me to him,” said Junelle. That was the woman that Noah had been searching for.

Since the culmination of the Olympic season, the world has seen many shades of the Lyles-Bromfield relationship. May it be pretty vacations or venturing into fashion, the two seem to be taking on the world together. And the world is all for it!
