The action at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics Track and Field meet has almost reached its conclusion. As the competition draws to a close on Saturday, August 5, athletes are giving their all to secure their spot in the finals. The stakes could not be higher for these young athletes participating in the 100m dash, 1500m race, and 80m hurdles.

Among all these events and athletes, one budding track star has etched her name in the track and field tome. As her event came to a close, she ended up setting a new world record in her division.

Latorian Freeman sets a new world record

Among the many brilliant displays during the AAU Junior Olympics, one particular performance stood out. Latorian Freeman of Ohio Heat Track Club put on a show in the 13-year-old girls 100m Hurdles. Battling her way through fierce competition, she not only clinched the gold medal but also shattered the AAU Junior Olympics’ national record with an astonishing time of 14.29 seconds. With her performance, she has left a mark on the track and caused a stir in the track and field community.

What was even more interesting was how the race ended. What looked like a close race till the end between Freeman and Nia Armstrong was only decided by an arm. Towards the end of the race, just as the two competitors were about to cross the finish line, Freeman, in her orange attire, flung out her hand in order to secure the top spot. The closeness of the result was reflected in the scorecard as well. As Freeman broke the record with her 14.29 seconds, Armstrong was close to her with 14.32 seconds. As Freeman won the race, she reflected on how she prepared for her record-breaking day.

After a record-breaking race, Freeman expressed her gratitude towards the almighty and claimed that she was confident that she will emerge victorious in the race. As far as her preparations go, she revealed she started her day by eating some avocado, which she did not like at all. Freeman also had some eggs and toast, after which she got into her groove and prepared her mindset for the race. The new world record holder did this by listening to her playlist and getting herself ready to run. She also believes that despite the long season, she did well throughout and is happy to end it with a gold medal and a world record.
