As the 2024 USATF Indoor Championships kicked off its second day, anticipation surged among fans and athletes alike. On February 18th, the spotlight shined brightly on the USATF Indoor Championships, drawing the nation’s most illustrious sprinting stars to the vibrant city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. As the day advanced, the women’s 800m event stole the spotlight.

The 27-year-old sprinter, Allie Wilson dominated the competition, showcasing her remarkable talent in the 800m event. Interestingly, just a week prior, she secured victory at the Millrose Games in 800m, and now she once again reaffirmed her prowess at the USATF Indoor Championships.

Allie Wilson won the U.S. Indoor 800m title with an impressive timeframe of 2:00.63. In the race, Wilson edged past Addison Wiley, an eight-time NAIA national champion, who finished closely behind in 2:00.70.

Nia Akins, a rising talent who placed sixth in the 2023 World Athletics Championship’s 800m event, secured the third spot with a time of 2:00.90. With this, Wilson clinched her first National title in the 800m category.

As she clinched the victory, Wilson expressed her heartfelt elation with teary eyes and stated, “It means everything. It’s been so hard for so long. It’s gotten a little bit like this and it makes it all worth it.”

 

Sammy Watson, representing Adidas, followed closely in fourth place, boasting a victory at the New Balance GP earlier in February and secured fourth place with a time of 2:00.94. Olivia Baker, known for her prowess in the 800 meters, crossed the finish line next in 2:02.21, while Angel Piccirillo, a middle-distance standout with multiple NCAA Division 2 titles, completed the field with a time of 2:02.53.

However, not only her performance in the USATF Indoor Championships, but Wilson’s performance at the Millrose Games also took all the brownie points as she asserted her dominance on the tracks.

Thrilling Women’s 800-meter showdown at the Millrose Games

The last Sunday in the Women’s 800-meter run at the Millrose Games all athletes seemed like they had a chance of winning. After surpassing the 600-meter mark, the field remained tightly packed. However, it was Allie Wilson’s final millisecond that changed the game. Allie Wilson surged past Olivia Baker in the final millisecond to win the race in 2:01.61. Baker finished a close second in 2:01.91, while Lorena Martin narrowly missed out on silver with a time of 2:01.93.

Kaela Edwards secured fourth place with a time of 2:02.06, closely followed by Gabija Galvydyte in fifth with a time of 2:02.24. Despite a promising start, Raevyn Rogers experienced a setback, fading from her early lead to the back of the pack as the race progressed.

While maintaining a solid position through the 600-meter mark, Rogers ultimately relinquished ground, sliding to sixth place over the final 200 meters, highlighting the unpredictable nature of elite competition.
