Track and field virtuoso Usain Bolt takes football ground visits often. But that isn’t just for displaying his sprinting finesse. Football and sprinting are very close-knit, and the latter plays a big role in steering the former’s wheel. Many times, football players Kylian Mbappé and Tyreek Hill have been compared with the speed spearhead. But could anybody stand their ground in front of Bolt?

7 years into retirement, the 37-year-old’s mastery of track still resonates. At the Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2023, the 8x Olympic gold medalist scored a pathbreaking goal that contributed to his team’s victory. This year, the event is just around the corner. Will he make a comeback?

Usain Bolt gears up for another goal

Resorting to his X, Usain Bolt posted, Can’t wait to return to Stamford Bridge for Soccer Aid for @unicef_uk 2024!”. Paired with stunning visuals, the Olympian announced his return in a celebratory way. At Stamford Bridge, on June 9, the Soccer Aid World XI FC will battle it out at one of the most popular celebrity football matches. Some new faces like Sam Thompson, Stuart Broad, and Eden Hazard will lock horns with home favorites Robbie Williams, Tommy Fury, and Usain Bolt.

Last year, the annual charity game held at Old Trafford, saw the football fanatic deliver a spectacle. Early in life, Bolt had grown a penchant for the European team Manchester United. So, in 2023, when one match united all the Manchester United legends, the 37-year-old couldn’t help but score a goal.

Bolt’s blazing performance in Soccer Aid 2023

With a 4-2 win over England, Bolt broke all standards just 23 minutes into the competition. Sporting Marcus Rashford’s signature move, the 100m and 200m reigning champion won hearts and wins alike. In 2018, in an interview, Bolt unveiled that he keeps updated on the offers from the MLS teams. So maybe, based on that, he was invited for a dream fulfillment.

A beautifully weighted Hernan Crespo pass found Bolt set the pace of the game in the initial half. Slightly dragging the shot, he scored the goal towards the right post. Later, he dodged David James’ footwork to exploit the left flank. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were able to pace up in the second half, but the track star’s performance confirmed the fifth consecutive win of World XI. This year too, Soccer Aid hopes to witness another spectacle by Bolt.
