As the big rumble in Paris inches closer, the US Track and Field Olympic Trials can be the make-or-break moment for many stars in the country. While track celebrities like Sha’Carri Richardson will be looking to make the most of the opportunity, injuries are making the road a difficult journey for others.

Eugene, Oregon will play host to one of the most significant events of the year next week. As the country’s top track and field stars compete in the Olympic Team Trials to secure their spot on Team USA, not everyone seems to be as fortunate in their quest. Injuries remain a major concern ahead of the Paris Games, and it appears that this issue is finally surfacing, with athletes like Trayvon Bromell and many others falling prey.

Recent updates across social media platforms are bringing heartbreaking news to the fore, leaving fans with a sinking feeling. Among the most significant losses is the absence of two-time World Championships medalist Trayvon Bromell, which hits especially hard. “Trayvon Bromell to miss Olympics,” announced a recent post on X by World Athletics Hub. The 100m runner would have been one of the strongest contenders to lock horns with Noah Lyles in Eugene, but it’s not to be, as it stands.

After picking up an injury a number of weeks ago in competition, Trayvon Bromell has scratched from the US Olympic Trials 100m,” informs the post further. Justifiably, fans are grief-stricken over missing the chance to watch the 2022 Diamond League gold medalist bid for a spot on the national team as part of the USA’s delegation to the French capital.

However, the 28-year-old does understand the need of the hour and why his opting out of the race to Paris is necessary right now. “Hate that I will have to miss it but I have to listen to my body!” said Bromell after his decision came to light. However, he isn’t the only star who will be missed at next week’s event.

More Americans drop out from the Road to Paris

Olympic gold medalist Michael Cherry is also likely to miss the Track and Field Team Trials. His Achilles injury, which has been a lingering issue since 2022, still hasn’t fully healed. The former LSU star will miss the opportunity to defend his Tokyo gold, which will surely disappoint fans. Earlier today, it was revealed that Kayla White would also be pulling out of the event to focus on regaining her full strength after an injury sustained months ago. If these setbacks weren’t enough, the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships gold winner Kaila Jackson is also expected to sit out the Team Trials.

Furthermore, a torn adductor is likely to force Colorado’s distance runner Joe Klecker to pull out of the event, which will serve as the final green flag for athletes seeking a podium finish in Paris this August. Former NCAA champion and Arkansas athlete Britton Wilson also posted on social media that a lingering injury will end her Olympic dreams, relegating her to watching the action from the sidelines instead. Former BYU student and USATF Youth Indoor Championships gold medalist Zach McWhorter is another unfortunate athlete likely to miss the event.
