Breaking free from the confines, Kerley embarked on an unexpected transition, setting his sights on success in the 200m and 100m categories, which he decided last year. Transition and Success in Shorter Divisions

As reported by Olympics, in 2022, Kerley made the bold decision of taking part in the shorter distance events. His debut in the 200m and 100m races in Florida showcased his exceptional speed and prowess. With a remarkable time of 20.04 seconds in the 200m and an astonishing 9.99 seconds in the 100m. Kerley joined the exclusive club of athletes who have broken the 10-second barrier in 100m finishes. He has the intentions to dominate the 100m world and wants to break Bolt’s record and in an interview with Olympics he stated “It’s very realistic. Everything is realistic; Bolt, Wayde [Van Niekerk], and all of the American greats. They put the bar up there for us to do it, If they can do it, then why not us?”

Yet, Kerley’s drive didn’t stop there. At the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in June, he blazed through the track with impressive times of 9.76 and 9.77 seconds in the 100m that took in a span of two hours, solidifying his position as a force to be reckoned with. In the same year, he swept all the American medals at Eugene. Apart from his success in recent times, he has some big future plans coming up for next year’s Olympics.

His ultimate goal is to shatter records in the 100m, 200m, and 400m events and especially Bolt’s 100m record, pushing the boundaries of human potential. The prospect of Olympic gold gleams brightly in his mind, with Kerley acknowledging that such a victory would etch his name in the annals of sporting history forever. He embraces the challenge set by the greats who came before him, knowing that if they were able to accomplish such feats, he, too, can aspire to greatness.

Overcoming Adversity to Pursue a Dream

Fred Kerley’s path to greatness was anything but conventional. Growing up in a challenging environment, he faced numerous obstacles that could have deterred him from his dreams. Born into a large family of 13 children, Kerley found himself sharing a small room with 12 siblings, where life’s basic necessities were a constant struggle. At the tender age of two, his father’s absence due to incarceration and his mother’s tumultuous behavior led to a difficult upbringing.

However, fate intervened when Kerley and four of his siblings were adopted by his aunt, Virginia. She became their beacon of hope and stability, providing a nurturing home amidst the chaos. Despite the limited resources and cramped living conditions, Kerley’s indomitable spirit shone through. With unwavering support from his aunt and a resilient mindset, he refused to let adversity define him. His hard work paid off as he started getting results on the track, even after the transition.
