Home/Olympics

The US Marathon Trials 2024 has finally blown the bugle. Athletes have girded strongly, and the race is already an adrenaline-fuelled one. But the marathoners who sat with clasped hands to defend their titles will miss competing with a marathon icon. The American long-distance runner who had predicted that it “will take sub-2:08:10 to make it in 2024” has faced an unexpected blow.

Scott Fauble, the 32-year-old NCAA Division 1 All-American champion, was looking hopeful ahead of the big game. This would have been his first Olympic stage and a fair shot at making his nation proud. But misfortunes never notify beforehand. Having said so, the 2019 Gasparilla Classic winner has dropped his Paris plans in the wake of a health issue and left his fans in a frenzy.

Scott Fauble has ruled himself out due to stomach issues. His record-breaking run is on suspension and his Olympic dreams just got shattered. FloTrack’s X handle has posted, Update: “Fauble has officially dropped #MarathonTrials24″. As unfortunate as it sounds, the 12th finisher at the 2020 Olympic Trials had hoped to make it through. But it didn’t work out well.

However, every gloomy story has a silver lining. Marathon doesn’t limit because of their ages. Where age is no bar, pregnancy is no bar and diabetes is no bar, it’s any man or woman’s game quite literally. In a press meet before the main event, Fauble had joined the ranks of Conner Mantz, Clayton Young, and Paul Chelanga to share some motivational notes. He had said, “There will be a big enough mass of guys upfront. This could be a fast race.” From his words, his passion showed colors. He even added, “I think the level of competition is high enough and the conditions will be such that we’re going to have three people in Paris.”

But his dreams got extinguished, and the blow came in unforeseen. Fauble was among the roster who had achieved 2:11:30 between November 2022 to February 2024. Since the Olympics doesn’t take place annually, such dream-deferring instances leave us with a lacuna.
