The love affair between Grant Holloway and 60m hurdles is not new. Rather, it gives a feeling of being ageless. Despite the stint of filling legs in the 60m hurdles’ shoes had started for him in his high school days. But Grant Holloway had come into recognition in 2017 through the Meet in Fayetteville. That had whistled the American sprinter so hard that he couldn’t stop himself from making records after years. Before coming to Boston this time, even Noah Lyles pricked him to have the same outcome.
All that Grant Holloway could do was give a fitting reply to Noah Lyles throughout the performance. Eventually, that happened on Sunday evening.

In the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, Grant Holloway shines again. In the heat, he took 7.37 to cross the 60m hurdle. That was better than even his final run last year at the same event. But the American track and field knew about Daniel Roberts, who had already roused so much fanfare last year. So this time, to win the race, Grant Holloway decided to make a world record. And that happened eventually. In the final, he took 7.35 seconds to earn the top podium. The FloTrack’s X-handle couldn’t hold its breath as it flexed a parable in honor of Grant Holloway. It conceded, “Just Grant Holloway doing Grant Holloway things….”

Daniel Roberts could stay far behind with a lackluster timing of 7.49. But Trey Cunningham from the US rose to the occasion. He was at the same time as Roberts. But just for 0.003 seconds, Cunning earned the runner-up position. Eventually, that was 0.14 seconds short of the 26-year-old American athlete who believes in continuous improvement. His records from the last 10 years claim the same. Moreover, the 3x world champion conceded the same as well once.

The results of a thorough improvement
Last time, Grant Holloway had registered his 61st indoor victory in the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. But before that, he had gone through his biggest loss in the track and field arena. In the 2021 US Olympic trial of 110m hurdles, the Virginia native was ultimately the favorite. He had resulted in the same way by performing the second fastest race in the 110m hurdles event. But in Tokyo, Grant couldn’t motivate himself in the same way. Jamaican sprinter Hansel Parchment had edged him out from the gold run. But next year, the American sprinter had won almost all the titles in the 60m and 110m hurdles. Not only that, he improved his timing in each case.

“I feel good. Good season opener, a good way to come back and get the season started. Looking forward to future hurdles”, Grant Holloway had said in the New Balance Meet last year. As of now, his “future hurdle” is waiting for him in the French capital.
