The World Athletics Championships are currently underway and it continues to keep causing a stir among fans. Nevertheless, the athletes are all girded up and are risking it all to take home the titles of world champions and etch their names in the history of athletics forever. However, it seems the heat in Hungary is getting on their nerves, as it took a toll on some sprinters’ physical prowess. Following this, many of them were helped by the paramedics in the wake of the heat strokes they sustained.
As the number of affected athletes continues to rise, serious concerns arise about the well-being of participants in track and field events. A recent social media post has highlighted the growing issue, reporting that yet another athlete has fallen victim to heat-related problems.

The post was shared by Citius Magazine on their X handle. The account posted a picture of the American 400-meter and 400-meter hurdles track and field runner Britton Wilson. She can be seen sitting in a wheelchair while the paramedics help her with the heat stroke she sustained. The post conceded, “Not what you want to see. Team USA’s Britton Wilson was taken off the track in a wheelchair after finishing last (53.87s) in her 400m heat.”
The Citius handle further added, “Wishing her a speedy recovery. Jamaica’s 400m champion Nickisha Pryce won the heat in 50.38s.” Interestingly, Wilson was placed eighth in the 400-meter heat with a time of 53.87 seconds. Following this, though the 22-year-old was one of the most anticipated performers for the United States in 400-meter track and field events, she won’t be able to advance further in the championships.
She was also considered one of the top three contenders in the women’s 400-meter heats. Despite her status as a relatively young athlete in the division, her recent standout performance at the SEC Championships in Louisiana has catapulted her into the spotlight as a rising star to keep an eye on.

However, things on track did not go too well for her, and she met a fateful end and will need some time to recover. Earlier this season she set the collegiate record of 49.13 seconds at the SEC Championships and she ran 49.79 in taking second at the USA Championships on July 8.
At last year’s World Championships, she finished fifth in 400-meter hurdles, and for the 1,600 relay, she won a gold. As a result, people expected her to win a medal in the 400 meter this year.
