The Olympic team trials are on and athletes are doing their best to secure their spot on the national team. While the trials are offering a sort of preview of the showdown in Paris, the humid weather of Orlando, Florida is also helping the stars to get accustomed to the weather conditions that await them in the French capital later this year. But for Marathon runner Emily Sisson, the hot Florida city seems to be the perfect place to make the final adjustments.
Sisson finished second in the women’s Marathon team trials. Completing the race behind Stanford’s Fiona O’Keeffee, Emily looks to make her first Olympic Games a memorable one. While the noon starting time for the team trials raised several eyebrows after being announced, Sisson thinks the options couldn’t have been better.

“This is pretty close to what we’ll get in Paris“, Sissons can be heard saying in a special media post by FloTrack. The post on X is accompanied by a caption that explains further, “Emily Sisson said she thinks running the trials in Orlando was a great preview of the condition to come in Paris“. She still mentioned how these conditions are the perfect way to understand how things might pan out at the 2024 Paris Olympics. “The closer, the better“, Emily highlighted, hinting that her run in Orlando probably gave her the pieces that could solve the ultimate puzzle for her on the grand stage.

Sisson’s statements about the harsh weather don’t come unexpectedly, especially given that the high temperatures were predicted for Florida beforehand. The men’s marathon winner Conner Mantz also said he felt like collapsing and fearful of being unable to finish the 26-mile race because of the temperatures in Florida.
And yet, Sisson said that the women athletes of Team USA have “…a good shot as ever” when it comes to gearing up for the Olympic Games. Moreover, considering her track record, Sisson isn’t one to head into the big event without some homework of her own.

Emily finished last year’s Olympic team trials first and placed tenth at the Tokyo Olympics 10,000m final race. In 2023, Sisson set a North American record at the Chicago Marathon after crossing the finishing line at 2:18:29. She also holds the collegiate record that she set after winning the NCAA 5,000m race in 2015.
