Kipyegon’s journey to sporting greatness reached unprecedented heights recently when she shattered the longstanding world record in the 1500m race. On June 2nd, in a thrilling race held in Italy, she eclipsed the eight-year-old record of 3:50:07 set by Genzebe Dibaba. Kipyegon became the first woman to complete the 1500m race in under 3 minutes and 50 seconds, crossing the finish line in an astonishing 3:49:11.

Interestingly, Kipyegon’s extraordinary achievements did not go unnoticed in her home country. In a post shared by RoriDunk on twitter, Kenyan President William Ruto expressed his admiration and appreciation for Kipyegon’s record-breaking performances when he met her in person. In a meeting between the president and the athlete, Kipyegon was presented with a substantial reward of $35,000 as a gesture of recognition and support.

 

Additionally, President Ruto surprised Kipyegon with another meaningful gift—a new house. This gesture symbolizes the nation’s gratitude to Kipyegon’s remarkable contributions to athletics. During the meeting, President Ruto commended “Faith has made Kenya incredibly proud,” he further added. “She stands as a shining model of consistency, discipline, hard work, as well as family. Faith is a great Kenyan woman — a mother, a wife, and a world champion rolled into one.” He hailed her as a role model for the nation.

Record-Breaking Triumphs

Not content with just one record, the 29-year-old continued her meteoric rise by breaking the world record in the 5000m race. During the Paris Diamond League event, held just a few weeks later, she completed the grueling distance in a remarkable time of 14:05:20. This shattered the previous record of 15:39:83, set by Letesenbet Gidey in Germany. the track and field star’s back-to-back world records showcased her exceptional talent, determination, and unwavering pursuit of excellence.
