The track and field world is about to witness scintillating action at the New Balance Grand Prix as the Lyles brothers once again go 1 on 1 against each other. It’s indeed going to be the clash of titans at Boston for the glory that the 60m heats will provide. While Noah Lyles has achieved unprecedented success in the athletic world, his younger brother, Josephus Lyles, is just getting started. However, it isn’t the first time the two are competing against each other in the pro race, with the first meet dating back to Diamond League 2020.
While Noah serves as a mentor for Josephus, the 25-year-old doesn’t compare himself with the five-time Diamond League Champion. Both of the brothers are aiming for a shot at the Paris Olympics 2024, but before that, the two go head-on against each other at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix as the 2014 World Junior Champion looks to redeem his close calls with his brother, following his disqualification last year.

Noah Lyles will face brother Josephus Lyles at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Sunday 4th February. Along with the Lyles brothers, the other runners in contention are Ronnie Baker, Ackeem Blake, Brandon Carnes, Demek Kemp, Fred Kerley, Miles Lewis, Hakim Sani Brown, JT Smith, and Kendal Williams. Although Noah Lyles is favored to win, the younger American brother will pose a tough fight to the 2020 Olympic bronze medalist.
The Lyles brothers raced together last at the 2023 RADD Sports Invitational in Gainesville, where Josephus bettered Noah to finish 2nd. Noah finished 3rd while Kendal Williams took home the winning prize. Before that, the two met at last year’s NB Indoor Grand Prix, where Noah emerged as the winner while the younger brother faced disqualification. As the elder brother kept winning race after race, Josephus started facing self-doubts when comparisons arose between the two.

Josephus Lyles on being likened to his brother
When Noah and Josephus Lyles were watching the 2012 London Olympics, both of them decided to either turn pro or go to college. “It’s either both of us go pro or we both go to college. We’re not going to split”, the 25-year-old recently said in an interview. However, while their input to the track was the same, Noah was getting the success while Josephus wasn’t, and things soon turned when both started being compared.
