Tara Davis-Woodhall is furious at Flotrack acquiring the Diamond League’s streaming rights. At a time when giants like NBC Sports have decided to stop the broadcast of the US Track and Field Championships, the Flotrack deals should have been welcome news. Unfortunately, as soon as the details of the deal came to light, the fans went up in unison to criticize the move.

Currently streaming on Peacock and televised on NBC, the shift is likely to be a bad decision for the sport. With the streaming rights now resting with Flotrack, it is feared that a chunk of the masses would lose their viewership. The backlash is so prominent that the organization was compelled to turn off its comment section on Instagram. Echoing fans’ sentiments, Woodhall chimed in.

The Diamond League is one of the top-tier track and field tournaments comprising 15 events involving male and female athletes. While it enjoys a huge fanbase, a large part of them might miss out on the action. Per the newly released clause, fans would have to pay a whopping $29.99 monthly to catch the Diamond League. The yearly plan for the same would be $149.99 per year. This is a huge jump from the previous prices they paid. Peacock currently charges $5.99 per month and $59.99 per year. 

Sensing the situation, Flotrack turned off the comments to one of their Instagram reels. Sharing the reel on her story, Tara Davis-Woodhall despised the act vehemently. Her story was captioned, turns off comments because they know this is a bad idea for the sport.:)” A lot of fans also took to the comment section of other posts from the account to express their discontent.

Most people rely on NBC’s free-to-air service to enjoy the Diamond League. However, with no television broadcast from now on, access would become limited. This would result in a majority of the masses missing out on the action. However, even as the criticisms run wild, the Wanda Diamond League CEO has a completely different take. 

Petr Stastny sees the bright side

Petr Stastny is the CEO of the Wanda Diamond League. Speaking about the newest deal, he was confident of its bright future. He believes the recent agreement only reflects their commitment to elevate track and field to a new level. Stastny also spoke about how it would help to provide uninterrupted and under-one-roof access to all the premium Diamond League fixtures for the fans.

Stastny further concluded, As we continue to celebrate athletic excellence on the global stage, we look forward to inspiring new generations of athletes and fans through this dynamic collaboration.” The change in platforms for the Diamond League streaming will come into effect from 2025.
