At the 2023 World Athletics Championship, Noah Lyles has taken the track world by storm. His 100m and 200m wins on the tracks of Budapest have solidified his track legacy. Lyles aimed to break Usain Bolt’s records on both occasions. He did reach close, but Bolt’s 100m and 200m world records are still safe. However, Lyle’s double win at the world championships, means that he is the second American since Tyson Gay in 2007 who has managed a 100m and 200m win.

Lyles had informed about his intentions to the public before the tournament even began. He emphasized that he is confident to win the 100m and 200m and that he is also considering a relay medal. As Lyles completed one of his commitments, he also took the time to lash out at his critics.

Lyles secured a pole finish in the 100m with his 9.83 second time. He followed that with a time of 19.52 seconds in the 200m as he completely dominated the race. Even seasoned and proven track stars like Andre De Grasse could not touch the American on the track. After winning two prestigious and sought-after events, Lyle talked to the press and said, “The double is done. It’s done. It’s alive, it’s thriving.” He also opened up about how there was pressure with the 200m win, but he took it in his stride.

The double champion also mentioned how this win was very personal to him. Lyles emphasized that many athletes who had the ability wanted to take the title away from him, but his practice and hard work stood firm against all opposition. He also reminded everyone about his loss in the Tokyo Olympics, in which Lyles had to settle for a bronze medal. This was also Lyles’ third world championship win in the 200m division. Despite all the wins and accolades, his mind is set to break all records that stand in his way.
