The Texas Relays happened in Austin at the end of March 2024. A 4x American Olympic gold medalist took to his social media to congratulate the women’s 4×200 relay team, making a bold suggestion regarding their outfits simultaneously.

Michael Johnson who himself holds world records in 200m and 400m, was full of applauds after the quartet also etched their name, creating a new world record this while. Always very vocal about supporting the sports fraternity, he has never refrained from adding knowledge proving his sporting game’s vitality.

Captioned in bold about the iconic moments that happen in Texas Relays, the 8x World Champion re-shared Texas T&F/XC’s post on X that announced, “Dina Asher-Smith, Rhasidat Adeleke, Lanae Thomas & Julien Alfred run a world best time of 1:27.05 in the 4×200 relay.” Though happy at their victory, he had another school of thought about their uniforms. He wrote, “How cool would it be if they could all wear the same uniform of their design?

The quartet beat the previous world record of 1:27:46 that was previously set by Team US at the Penn Relays back in 2000. While Julien Alfred’s anchor leg matched that of the all-time fastest, Marion Jones, Rhasidat Adeleke’s second leg, depicted her comeback after the ankle injury she had had. Rhasidat Adeleke’s quartets’ chemistry was on point, to make this remarkable achievement in their home state in the United States.

After the Texas relay, Michael Johnson has again recognized the record-making team and their efforts to their global accomplishment. Johnson on his official account on X, had dedicated an appreciation post for the British 2019 World Champion, Dina Asher-Smith, who ran the first leg before handing the baton to Ireland’s Adeleke.

“Dina’s move to train with Coach Flo and a great group of training partners in Texas looking like a smart move! Strong 4×4 leg indicates improved speed endurance will help that 200 and could land her on the 4×4 relay in Paris.”, he elaborated on the stamina-building training sessions that the athlete took, which ultimately led her to take off the relay at a faster speed. He further added that this improved technique could help her in the 4×400 relay that is most anticipated in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.
