The athletics superstar Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce worried the sports world when she had to suddenly bow out of the Kip Kieno Classic due to her unexpected knee injury. Since the incident, the entire world has been waiting for ‘Mommy Rocket’ to make her debut in the current season. Shelly-Ann did so recently at the Spitzen Leichtathletik meet in Luzern, Switzerland. Despite the race being her first of the season after an injury, she managed to get an under-11 time as she stormed the 100m.

Needless to say, it was one of the biggest comebacks in track and field this season. The Jamaican won her first 100m race of the season in spite of not getting a good enough start initially. However, the 10-time world champion powered through and took over others with her sheer speed. It has been 15 years since she first won a global title at the 2008 Olympics. Nonetheless, the 36-year-old has continued to stun the world with her track prowess.

The news of the win was shared by Track Gazette on Twitter, and it received a warm welcome from Fraser-Pryce’s fans. In the caption to the Tweet, it was written, “10.82s!! Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce kicks off her 100m campaign at the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern, clocking a time of 10.82s (0.3)! She finished ahead of Zoe Hobbs who ran 11.08s while Kennedy Blackmon ran 11.11s to finish 3rd.” The Jamaican left Hobbs from New Zealand and Blackmon from America behind to clinch the victory.

The victory comes after a sudden injury during the Kip Kieno Classic, that made her lose some races during her recovery. The first 2023 race that Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was part of was the 200m at the Jamaican National Championships on 9 July in Kingston. This was the race where Shericka Jackson claimed a sprint double. After that event, Fraser-Pryce decided to make her shorter race debut at the Spitzen Leichtathletik meet in Luzern, Switzerland instead of the Meeting de Atletismo Madrid in Spain on 22 July, which was what was decided earlier.

According to a World Athletics report, after her last year’s win, Fraser-Pryce said, “I can’t even imagine the amount of times I’ve had setbacks and I’ve bounced back and I’m here again.” She did arrive last year, and similarly, she is expected to repeat history again this year despite her injury acting as another setback.
