Hunter Woodhall's historic win—proof that love and support can fuel extraordinary achievements?

After securing her ticket to Paris at Hayward Field last month, Tara Davis-Woodhall is now supporting her husband, Hunter Woodhall. With the Paralympic Trials for track and field underway, the 25-year-old athlete is eager to book his spot for the Paris Paralympics. Fortunately, the Paralympian has made an impressive start to the trials, setting a new American record.

“THAT’S AN AMERICAN RECORD!!! Hunter with a PB running 10.75(!!!) in the 100m prelim at the Paralympic Trials,” wrote Tara Davis-Woodhall’s husband. His achievement early in the event has mesmerized and inspired his 25-year-old wife. Shortly after the Paralympian’s post, his wife took to Instagram to write a heartfelt tribute.

“My love… inspirational. That’s what you are. This season you have worked so hard to be the best version of Hunter Woodhall you could be! Time and time again you have overcome challenges that many athletes or humans have ever faced,” wrote Mrs. Woodhall about her husband’s historic performance, revealing how her husband inspires her to become a better athlete.

Now heading for her second Olympics, Tara Davis-Woodhall jumped 7.00m at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Just like her husband’s statement victory, the 2024 World Indoor long jump champion proved a point by overtaking her Tokyo Olympics’ 6.84m long jump. “You inspire me every day to work hard and to never give up,” added Mrs. Woodhall. The track and field icon couldn’t stop praising the 3x Paralympic medalist.

“You, my sir are the best to ever do it. Today you broke the American Record for the 100m. A race that you wanted to start doing because it was fun. Today showed you what you are capable of. Tomorrow will show you what you’re made of,” concluded Tara Davis-Woodhall. Earlier this month, the husband-wife duo revealed how a common goal helped them constantly improve as athletes.

“World championships can change your career, but the Olympics can change your life… It’s a different beast,” Hunter Woodhall told the Associated Press. During their conversation with AP, the track and field power couple explained their desire to prove a point in Paris. While Tara Davis-Woodhall fell short of World Championships gold last year by 23cm, Hunter’s prosthetics malfunctioned before the 400m sprint.

However, the couple hopes to correct past disappointments and surpass their performances at the World Championships with an Olympic medal. For years since Tokyo, Tara Davis-Woodhall has regularly surpassed the distance she jumped in the Olympics. Nonetheless, she remains aware that anything can happen during the Olympics. Similarly, Hunter Woodhall aims to finally capture the Paralympic gold that has eluded him so far.

With Tara Davis-Woodhall securing her spot on the U.S. Olympic Team and her husband breaking an American record, the couple has ignited a fire within themselves. With only a week left until the grandest sporting event, and a month until the Paralympics, they won’t have to wait long.
