Tara Davis-Woodhall seems to love being a constant headliner. And she has been one since her iconic jump at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, this time, she’s yet again in the headlines, but for something funny. She just couldn’t resist making a cheeky remark about the long-jump technique that her European rivals seem to often use!

Not so long ago, Tara took to Threads and wrote, “I’ll never understand Euro long jumpers jumping at the end of the runway. 😂” It has left the fandom in stitches. However, let’s not be fooled! As behind that humor is the Gold medalist who, in her golden wake, left those same rivals trailing far behind. So what’s so special about Tara’s jump?

There’s no forgetting the iconic moment in Paris when Tara showed the world why she is the queen. She went on to make a 7.10-meter jump that comfortably crossed the defending champion’s jump. In fact, Malaika Mihambo, Germany’s defending champion, could only reach 6.98 m. However, that wasn’t the only European name to have jumped alongside Tara!

There was also Italy’s Larissa Iapichino, who finished at 6.87m, which put her fourth. And then there was also Romania’s Alina Rotaru, the bronze medalist from the 2023 World Championships. Rotaru was only able to clock 6.67m, which left her in seventh place. So perhaps Tara’s cheeky statement might have a little legitimate question hidden in it! Now with the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships around the corner, the little poke seems well-timed. But what exactly is Tara’s technique? Or is it the American technique?

Well, it is no secret now that Tara Davis-Woodhall’s board placement is practically flawless. She hits the board just four centimeters from the edge on her winning jump in Paris. That, when combined with her 12.75 hurdle speed and consistency, makes her a deadly opponent. And of the six jumps Tara made on the finals day, two were over 7m. It was clear that the Americans were in charge this time! So what’s next on the charts for the Olympian?

What future goals await Tara Davis-Woodhall?

Tara Davis-Woodhall might have an Olympic gold, but she doesn’t have a World Championship gold! And much like her well-timed cheeky comment, there’s one waiting to happen this year. As Tara herself puts it, “Well, there’s World Championships before the Olympics (LA2028), so that’s what the goal is first.” The World Championships are set to happen in Tokyo this year. “I have one from the indoor championships but not the outdoor yet,” she added. So does she have no wins in the outdoors?

Well, no. Tara won the silver medal at the 2023 World Championships. However, could not make the coveted Gold. But as Tara herself mentioned, she does have an Indoor World Championships gold with a 7.07m jump already. To add to 2025’s excitements, it is not all about her jumps this year. Let’s not forget Tara has also taken on the role of a coach!

Tara is the assistant coach for the Kansas State track team. As Tara herself puts it, “I’ll be training with them. So it’s the best of both worlds.” Evidently, for Tara Davis Woodhall, 2025 is all about growing as an athlete and mentor. With big plans and a touch of humor, her journey is only just beginning.
