But, it is not so that the field lacks US champions. Along with the Paris Olympics silver medalist, Bashir Abri from Belgium, American stars will also be lining up to chase the title at NYC. This includes Conner Mantz, who came in 8th in Paris and Clayton Young, who finished right after, in the 9th spot. Notably, this will be both their debut at the platform. Supporting them in the chase are other American names with personal bests under the 2.12 mark, namely Elkanah Kibet, Noah Droddy, Jared Ward, and others.

But speaking of the two who finished in the top 10 in Paris, both Young and Mantz had clocked their season bests. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for a victory. The former was at 2:08:44, while the later came right next with 2:08:56. However, these were still nearly 2 minutes slower than Tamirat Tola. Thus, it is sure that the athletes would have to push if they wish to stand as tall competition for the Ethiopian.
Moreover, the Paris route was anything but simple. It had a steep uphill climb, followed by a descent, with the gradient being nearly 13.5 percent. On top of that, the heat wave in Paris made matters more complicated. Nonetheless, Tola came in to save the day for the side. Interestingly, he wasn’t the first choice. Tamirat Tola only made the team after Sisay Lemma retired hurt. But, guess, he did make the most of the opportunity and won acclaim at the grandest stage.
