The sporting world recently woke up to devastating news as a 32-year-old sprinter, an Olympic gold medalist, passed away at the unripe age of 32. Tori Bowie, a multiple-Olympic medalist who was raised by her grandmother in Mississippi, died on 3rd May 2023 when at the peak of her health and fitness. While the cause of her death hasn’t been revealed yet, the news has already shattered fans and the sporting world with condolences being poured from every corner.

Tori Bowie won the gold medal with the US team in the 4X100 meters event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. However, just 7 years later, fate had other plans for her.

A tweet by Icon Management read, “We’re devasted to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away. We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter, and sister. Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family and friends”.

 

Bowie’s stint at the Rio Olympics was especially special since she not only won the gold medal in the 4X100 meters event, she also won a silver and a bronze at 100m and 200m, respectively. Her silver medal aka 2nd place at the 100m event was a proud one since she beat the then-defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, putting her in the 3rd position. Fraser-Pryce had earlier said that she wanted to inspire women before ending her career at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

A champion athlete and a national hero for the US, Tori Bowie’s death is both tragic and shocking, given that she was all but 32. There were hardly any reports about any former cases of such involvement that could potentially put her life in danger. Therefore, her death in the most mysterious circumstances has brought the sporting world to a standstill.
