Kylian Mbappé, one of the fastest soccer stars in the world, is apparently slower than many female sprinters! The French star was recently in the news for his dash of 100m where he clocked an estimated time of 10.9 seconds. Soon after the incident, Mbappe was being hyped on social media for being slower than Usain Bolt by just a second. Unfortunately, reality paints a contrasting picture and people have hit back at the hype.
Getting back to Mbappe’s timing of 10.9 seconds, several social media accounts have stated that the timing was unimpressive. In fact, the top women athletes clock a better 100m time than the PSG star. After the legend Usain Bolt mocked the Paris Saint-Germain forward, World Athletics also joined in the tease.

In what was a hilarious turn of events, the official account of World Athletics hit back at the hype created around Mbappe’s speed. Posting a picture of his 10.9s time, they posted Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce laughing in the backdrop. While Mbappe’s speed was indeed impressive, compared to mainstream sprinters, the time crumbles like ninepins.
"10.90? That's cute" 🤭 pic.twitter.com/QptZhCzTOD

This is because the speed of women athletes in the circuit is often well above 10.9 seconds. For example, Shericka Jackson has a personal best of 10.65 seconds, which she clocked at Kingston in 2023. Fellow Jamaican, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce has her record at 10.60 seconds, which she registered in 2021. Not only that, a detailed comparison would see Mbappe’s timing out of the top 60 all-time 100m list of women.
Mbappe’s timing would also be ranked at joint 433rd if compared with the timings of the under-18 athletes in 2023. Taking a similar dig at the hype, world record holder Usain Bolt had stated a day earlier, “I was laughing when I saw it. The girls are running faster than that.” Well, the hype around Mbappe’s 100m dash has gone wrong. Fans are now chiming in with their take on the matter. Bolt also shared the World Athletics post on his story on Thursday.
Fans have a field day reacting to the hilarious comparison
World Athletics’ tweet captioned, “10.90? That’s cute”🤭” garnered the attention of fans and it received more than 113k views in less than 24 hours.
One of the users shared a personal opinion and wrote that the slowest person in the women’s final is faster than that.

Another soccer fan shared a personal thought and mentioned it’s praiseworthy cause Mbappe maintained that speed while also controlling a ball.
…that is while controlling a ball, bolt could not make the weakest ManU Team cause he kept on tripping over the ball chasing a 5m pass context matter

Another Twitter user has just requested a charity race during the Paris Olympics 2024 between Mbappe and the girls.

Another user pointed out the differences and mentioned that these debates do not always make sense.
That’s wearing studded boots on a grass pitch. No springy tartan track or specialist track shoes. Get a grip guys.
