The Olympian talked about those setbacks and how they impacted her in a conversation with the NCAA.

Ahead of the Paris Olympics, the American sprinter unmasked her fears and discussed her controversial moments. The incident dates back to 2018 when Gabby Thomas was planning her comeback on the tracks of the NCAA Indoor Championship, where she created history by setting a collegiate record for 200 m. The 27-year-old recalls being there in the moment that changed the ‘trajectory’ of her life. I remember the week before that meet on our indoor track at Harvard and being so scared to go to that meet again and show my face because I was embarrassed for the last year,” she says.

The track and field star recalls being sat down by her coach and captain who talked to her about ‘redemption’. She reminisces over her experience at Harvard and how people cared about her as a ‘person’ and ‘athlete’ above all. Gabby Thomas adamantly exudes her praise for the support system she got at Harvard. The clip of her wholesome conversation with the NCAA was later tweeted by their official page, captioning it, “The support system at @HarvardTFXC for @itsgabbyt set her up for breaking a collegiate record and #Paris2024!”

Harvard is home to various revolutionary and pioneer faces. One of the fastest women in the world, Gabby Thomas is also a Harvard graduate. Her journey from classroom boundaries to crossing boundaries was exceptional just like her Olympics semi-final trials.

Gabby’s work ethic and manifestation for gold medals have been evident throughout her career, making her the second-fastest woman in the history of race following the legendary Florence Griffith Joyner.

As she heads toward her Olympic dreams, she recalls being a Harvard student. “Being in school really makes me appreciate what I’m doing on the track. It makes you appreciate the time. When I go to the track, this is my time to be on the track and be free, ” says the emergent star. Thomas is pursuing her master’s in epidemiology at the University of Texas at Austin.
