High school track and field star Brody Buffington never shies away from making it to the headlines. Whether it is marking the fastest time in the boys’ 55-meter dash (6.25) in the country or clinching a multitude of accolades in relays, the Catoctin High School champion has covered it all. However, the sprinter recently caught the spotlight not because he finished first in the 4×200-meter relay, but because of celebrating his triumph.
On May 26th, Buffington approached the finish line while competing in the final leg of the Class 1A 4×200 meter relay race. As he came out ahead, he expressed his elation in the most intriguing way. Nonetheless, though he clinched the victory, he later got disqualified for his actions.

As he was nudging toward the finish line, Buffington looked toward the spectators and raised a finger in the air. After running past the ribbon, he extended his arms out wide and flaunted his win. However, the Class 1A meet officials disregarded his gesture and called it inappropriate. In the wake of this, he got disqualified from the races.
The Nigerian track and field correspondent, Oluwadare, took to his Twitter to share the video of Buffington’s celebratory instance. He penned, “Brody Buffington disqualified for ‘“Unacceptable conduct” at the State Championships”.

The social media cult got frenzied over Buffington’s disqualification
Starting a thread of comments under Oluwadare’s post, fans penned…
If that was it, then those officials should never officiate any track meet again. Shameful.

Nonetheless, this is not the first time that Buffington got ruled out from the tracks. In February 2023, the high school star got disqualified from the 300-meter race at Maryland 1A West region meet after he celebrated while approaching the line. He threw up his arms and waved his hands in delight, all while glancing over his shoulder. Highlighting his disqualification from the 1A west region meet, one fan added..
It's the second time this season Buffington was DQ'ed for the same thing. The rule stinks but he was fully aware of it.

Expressing their chagrin with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFSH) for their rule book, netizens expressed their rage and called the rule unfitting.
Winners celebrate. Rules like this are designed to help the losers feelings. That’s a huge moment for that kid and to smoke em like that too, kid should have done a flip over the finish line!
