Shericka Jackson, the 200-meter world champion, proved once again why this category is considered her territory. Sha’Carri Richardson’s closest rival was running 200 meters at the Brussels Diamond League, and she did what she does best. This 29-year-old Jamaican clinched a dominating win at King Baudouin Stadium. However, Jackson missed the 100-meter heat to focus on the 200-meter race, and she did not disappoint. The current world champion clocked the fourth fastest time in the world, and with this, she also became the second, third, and fourth fastest woman in the 200-meter heat globally.

Running in the 200-meter meet, the reigning fastest woman alive faced off against top-notch athletes like Anthonique Strachan, Jenna Prandini, and Daryll Neita, leaving them no opportunity for a comeback. This was one of the most dominating finishes from the time world champion and she almost mirrored her world championship finish in August.

Jackson was lined up in lane six, and she looked confident and certain about her win. This five-time Olympic medalist took an early lead and maintained it until the end, clocking a time of 21.48 seconds. This was also the fourth-fastest time in the 200-meter women’s category. Her dominance in the race was so pronounced that when she crossed the finish line, not a single one of her competitors was anywhere in the frame. Jamaica Observer shared the news of her win on their X handle (now Twitter) with the caption, “Diamond League Record down, World Record to go!!!!”

Anthonique Strachan finished second with a time of 22.31 seconds, while Jenna Prandini was placed second after clocking 22.47 seconds. With this, Jackson has also set a new Diamond League record, and she is already the fastest woman in the 200-meter race alive, chasing American legend Florence Griffith Joyner’s record.

Jackson has been a dominant force in the 200-meter division this season, and she is most widely regarded as the one who can challenge Flo-Jo’s record of 21.34 seconds. Now she will be heading to the finals on Sunday, which are organized outside of Europe for the first time in history.

Diamond League finals will bring all the thrill

Jackson will be facing her closest track rival, Sha’Carri Richardson, in Eugene on September 17, and it will be an eventful race to watch. Apart from this, she will also have to maintain her world champion crown while looking to break the 35-year-old world record of 21.34 seconds. After that, she will shift her focus to the 2024 Olympics as well, where she still has to prove herself in shorter divisions of the races.
