The 2023 track and field season unofficially belonged to Sha’Carri Richardson. The entire athletic calendar was inundated with her electrifying performances that heaped accolades on her. Recently, she debuted in the Forbes 30 under 30 list, but her biggest triumph came at the USATF annual meeting. 

Sha’Carri Richardson has been training for her Olympic debut in 2024. Nevertheless, the Dallas-born took some time off from training to travel to Orlando for a special function. While the USATF officials wished to deck her in new honors, the track queen redirected attention to pressing issues, steering the spotlight away from personal achievements. 

Sha’Carri Richardson invites peers to discuss issues

Hours ago, Sha’Carri Richardson posted an invite on her Instagram story for track and field athletes. The Instagram post read, “Professional Track and Field Athletes Only!!! With many of us in Orlando for USATF annual meetings, this is the perfect time for us to meet again. If you are available, please fill out the following form as soon as possible”. In the postscript at the end of the post, she wrote, “Remember: This ATHLETE’s ONLY meeting will be a safe space for us to discuss what’s important to us”. The world champion’s call has resonated with many track stars who responded to her call. Sha’Carri Richardson has always been very upfront while asserting her opinions and advocating for the rights of athletes. 

She has been unapologetic while pointing out the various challenges and inequalities that athletes face. As the recipient of hate because of her flashy sprinting avatar, Sha’Carri Richardson has hardened herself and wants to become a voice of change in the track community. Nevertheless, the USATF meeting was not all about discussing serious topics but also about celebrating her victories.

Sha’Carri Richardson dazzles at the USATF meeting

The Carter alum took the top honors of the night on November 30. Sha’Carri Richardson graciously received the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Award and inspired the attendees with a beautiful speech. She had proven herself as the best female athlete of the 2023 track and field season with her glittering performances in Budapest.

Nevertheless, Richardson’s involvement at the USATF meeting will forever be associated with the major amendments made to the Bylaws. The Rules Committee proposed a number of changes to the rules of the future competition. Sha’Carri Richardson has become an important proponent of inclusivity and fairness in the sport and has used her influence to advocate for these amendments.
