Sha’Carri Richardson has been a force to be reckoned with in the women’s 100m track events in the 2023 season. Along similar lines, the newly crowned 100m world champion came into the 2023 Prefontaine Classic with just one goal in her mind- to clinch another 100m glory on the tracks of Eugene. As for the 2023 Diamond League, Richardson had won all her 100m races this year with her most recent win coming in the Zurich leg of the Diamond League.

Richardson faced familiar foes in Eugene recently with the likes of Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah participating in the women’s 100m event. As the clock stopped in Eugene, Richardson found herself far behind her Jamaican rival Elaine Thompson-Herah, who got the better of the reigning world champion.

After an impressive 2023 season, many were expecting to see Sha’Carri Richardson win the 100m heat in the 2023 Prefontaine Classic. However, Elaine Thompson-Herah had other plans as she finished third in the women’s 100m with a time of 10.79 seconds. Richardson trailed the Jamaican in fourth with a time of 10.80 seconds.

The race was won by 200m world champion Shericka Jackson who clocked 10.70 seconds to become the 2023 women’s 100m Diamond League champion. Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou finished behind Jackson to secure a second-place finish with her season-best time of 10.75 seconds. This race concludes Sha’Carri Richardson’s 2023 season, which has been exceptional so far with emphatic triumphs in Budapest.

At the 2023 World Athletics Championships, Sha’Carri Richardson blazed toward the finish line and set a record time of 10.65 seconds to clinch her first world championship gold medal.

She also secured a bronze medal in the women’s 200m division after she ran a personal best time of 21.92 seconds. Later on in the competition, she won another gold medal for anchoring the U.S. women’s 4x100m relay team to a championship record time of 41.03 seconds.

Richardson was hoping for more of the same in Eugene, but the Jamaican duo of Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah prevented the world champion from going out with a bang.
