Athing Mu, in all probability, will not be headlining the upcoming LA Grand Prix. Scheduled to compete in the women’s 400m hurdles category. Mu was expected to be the star of the show. Surprisingly, in what was a mysterious twist, Athing Mu’s name was not available days before the start of the event. While her name was available on the official page of the LA Grand Prix earlier, the same could not be said as only Dalilah Muhammad and Anna Cockrell’s names were visible.
Apart from this, fans on X are also speculating on the possibility of the Olympian missing out on the big event. However, no official announcement has been made about the same by the authorities. The reason for Athing Mu’s absence, if true, is also in the shadows.
Athing Mu has emerged as a dominant force in the track and field world. Her 800m gold back at the Tokyo Olympics earned her ultimate glory. However, Mu did not seem to be complacent and continued keeping up with the good work. Aiming to replicate her brilliant display once again in Paris, Mu was supposed to be at her sublime best in the LA Grand Prix but alas, that was not meant to be.

Now with Mu allegedly out of the picture, a golden opportunity opens up for the likes of Muhammad and Cockrell to impress the audiences. Well, as far as impressing the audience is concerned, Athing Mu has been able to do that quite often.
Athing Mu impresses post her 2021 Olympics triumph
Under the watchful eyes of Bobby Kersee, Mu has worked relentlessly towards bettering her further. She had an impeccable 2023 where she clinched the third position at the World Championships. Competing in the 800m, Mu displayed her dominance, missing out on the victory by a whisker. However, Mu immediately showed her character and resilience when the trio met once again in the Diamond League Final in 2023.

Determined to take the pole position, Mu looked invincible right from the start. Her superior work ethic on the tracks resulted in Mu outrunning both Keely Hodgkinson and Mary Moraa, and, in turn, completing her revenge. Beginning her outdoor season this year. Athing Mu spearheaded the Mt.SAC Relays. She was supposed to compete in a team event- the 4x400m discipline. Unfortunately, her team did not start the race, giving the crowd a damper of an event.
Her recent absence yet again from another big event only makes the situation complicated for Mu. This further pushes back her outdoor debut ahead of the Olympics, making the qualifying scenario harder. Thus, with mystery surrounding the Olympic gold medallist’s 2024 run, it will be interesting to see what follows next.
