The calendar after the Paris Olympics is already looking like a treat for track and field fans. Among other events, the inaugural edition of the 776 Invitational might just be the thing to satiate the adrenaline rush that is sure to peak during the 2024 Games. Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian’s ambitious project is slowly shaping up with help from national track icons like Gabby Thomas. However, tennis legend Serena Williams’ husband is also leaving no stone unturned to bolster his commitment to developing women’s sports with the tournament scheduled to happen in September.

Only a few days ago, British runner Annie Tagoe was announced as the latest star who will be participating in the 776 Invitational. And now, the sprinter cum supermodel has once again taken to social media to highlight how the main host is dedicating his days to making the event a successful one.

In a recent post on X, Tagoe shed light on Alexis’ hard work. Her post shares the original message by Ohanian only hours before that, with the caption, “I told you we were on the starting line…“, and is accompanied by a video showing Tagoe training meticulously to up her game. However, the brief video clip doesn’t show only the athlete putting in hours into training. She is also seen alongside Gabby Thomas and others. The stars look to be in a good mood as they bond together.

Another moment from the clip shows Ohanian being present at the training camp, meeting up with the athletes, presumably trying to understand their needs and requirements. One other snippet shows Tagoe giving Thomas tips on how to get her walk right for the ramp, or maybe the red carpet.

With Ohanian always being present at the training facility for his athletes, it only shows just how determined he is to uplift women athletes’ condition in the sporting world by doing his part thoroughly.

Last week, track fans were overjoyed by a video posted by Alexis on social media. The video heavily featured the world’s fastest woman Sha’Carri Richardson, and fans took a nose dive with speculations about whether she will be appearing in the special event. Richardson has pulled out of several tournaments in recent months, including the Miramar Invitational, and her followers think all her efforts are being diverted to the Olympics for the time being. However, what will happen after the big showdown in Paris is still up for debate.

On the other hand, Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas has been an integral part of the 776’s journey since its announcement. With that, it wouldn’t be too bold to presume that the 2018 NCAA champ is likely to show up for an event or two in September. Ohanian has been a staunch advocate for enabling women athletes to realize their true potential and believes they should be given equal prize money like their male colleagues. With that in mind, the 776 Invitational will be the perfect stage to make his intentions clear and usher in a new era for the track and field community.
