The whispers began in August 2022 when people got to know that Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield were dating. After all, the USA versus Jamaica rivalry on the track made people doubtful about their relationship. But the hate that was simmering reached the boiling point when Lyles revealed before the 2024 Paris Olympics, “Junelle being Jamaican and having trained in MVP, I have been getting the drama from the Jamaican camp at least five years now.” This angered Jamaican fans, who felt Bromfield, must have divulged sensitive information about Lyles’s Jamaican rivals. Things got worse when the American won the 100m gold medal in Paris and Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson had to settle for the silver.
All of this led to Bromfield receiving online abuse and threats from her country and things have reached a point where she feels she might not be able to go back there. For her episode of SIM Soul Sessions, the athlete was offered the option of going to Jamaica and doing the interview there, but her response only evoked sadness, as revealed by Simone Clarke.
The host took to Instagram and wrote, “I’ve sat and watched what has been happening with @junellebromfield. We reached out to her, and I offered to fly her home to come sit with me for @simsoulsessions because I thought she needed to have her say. Her response hurt my heart. She wanted to accept the invitation, but she was afraid to come home.”

“Cyberbullying, trolling, and yes, folks – death threats. In that moment, I promised her that if she was afraid to come to us, we were coming to her,” revealed the Jamaican podcaster, who immediately mobilized her production, and they went to Orlando to meet Bromfield. They spoke about the athlete’s family, track and field, and even the online hate that she had to face.
Owing to this, Clarke released another reel on Instagram where she pleaded, “Can you just tag Junelle… just send her some positive love… Just tag her in everything you say that’s good and positive because she has been hearing a lot of it but silently, from people who are afraid… So let us just send her a wave of love.”

How did the fans react? Well, Clarke’s several posts regarding Junelle Bromfield had tons of positive comments. They expressed their gratitude towards the athlete for sharing her vulnerable side. The interview with Bromfield will be released on Monday.
