In Track and Field, the marathon is the ultimate test of human patience, resilience, and stamina. The recent marathon events in Chicago have asserted every element of thrill among spectators. Fans are not even blinking their eyes as they fear they might miss another remarkable moment. Along the same lines, the participating athletes have poured their sweat and tears into the game, making it one of a kind.

One of the prominent marathon runners recently made it to the spotlight. With his undeterred determination, he not only won the marathon, but also made it to shatter present records. However, something that surpassed his win was his statement post the win that recently went viral on social media.

No pain, but marathon gain?

Kelvin Kiptum is among the best long-distance runners in the history of athletics, as he is the first one to tear the finish tape among other athletes in Chicago. He grabbed the title of Chicago Marathon winner and registered a record under his name. In addition, this African runner secured a place in the book of records by completing the Marathon 34 seconds before the previous world record. After the win, Flotrack recently posted a picture of Kiptum on their Instagram. According to the post, Kiptum was asked if he had ever experienced pain in a marathon. To which the athlete replied, “I haven’t.”

On the same note, Kiptum replaced his compatriot and previous record holder, Eliud Kipchoge. Eventually, he completed the marathon in a recorded time of 2:00:35, which is faster than the previous record of 2:01:00. Thus, he etched his name through the annals of marathon history. Although Eliud Kipchoge boasts a marathon world record with a time of 1:59:40 during the 2019 Ineos 1:59 Challenge, this record is not officially recognized due to the specific race conditions in which it was accomplished.

In an exclusive interview with?World Athletics, Kiptum said,?“I knew I was coming for a course record, but a world record ? I am so happy,”. He added,?“A world record was not on my mind today, but I knew one day I would be a world record-holder.”?Records are made to be broken. Beyond those, Kiptum sets himself apart from many others with his background story.

Self-help is the best help

Kiptum is not only the same among the best long-distance runners but also the current record holder. However, the unique aspect that sets Kiptum apart from other athletes is that he is self-coached. In addition, Kiptum is often considered a natural runner who will take athletics to new horizons. He first recorded his debut race at the 2022 Valencia Marathon with an impressive time of 2:01:53.

Subsequently, he followed this record with the second-fastest marathon of his career, competing in the Rainy London Marathon with a recorded time of 2:01:25. Ultimately, he succeeded in surpassing the previous world record. The digits after that ‘2’ are gradually coming down.
