Throughout her career lately, Shericka Jackson has victoried the 21.4s target multiple times. However, she hinted once by writing in her goal book, “faster than 21.4”, that she wanted to leave behind Joyner’s world record.
Being vocal about her ultimate goal of going after Florence Griffith-Joyer’s 21.34 world record that was set at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the Jamaican athlete thus aims to outwrite her successor’s triumph maybe sometime soon. But there is more to the game than just etching a world record, the Jamaican athlete thinks. Shericka Jackson had scored 21.41 in the World Championships in Budapest and etched her name to soar nearer to winning the Olympic gold this season plus also defending a world title.

The Citius Mag covered the Jamaican athlete, Shericka Jackson’s 2024 goals ahead of the Paris Olympics, citing the 200m world record and an Olympic gold. On being asked about the potential world record that might be on her mind this season, she said, “Honestly, I remember when I was afraid to say, I want to break the record, coach and I had a conversation and he enlightened me on something whether I speak about it or not, and (in case) I don’t achieve it, it’s not the end of the world.”
Dreaming of her secret wish of getting a world record on her name since the last year, Shericka Jackson isn’t that disappointed that she couldn’t have it in her name last year, though she is well focused to try to achieve it this year. With new training practices covered by her this season, she is convinced by her prime goal to to sustain her name in the track and field industry. But she adds that a world record could definitely act as a feather on the hat likewise. She concluded by saying, “I am the athlete and my coach will prepare me for the right time. So, its definitely not something that i keep on the forefront of my mind.”
Road to Paris Olympics 2024
Shericka Jackson is hoping for a qualification for her third battle in the Olympics this season , shifting her main focus on the short sprint races. She had earned a silver in the 4x100m and a bronze medal in the 400m at the 2016 Rio Olympics. And now, clinched the 4x100m gold and a bronze in the 100m and 4x400m sprint races.

With her positive mindset, he continues to be grounded and happy as she still is one of the most prominent athletes in women’s track and field. “Once you have a positive mindset approaching training each day, I think it’s something that we as athletes look forward to every day.”, Shericka Jackson quoted.
