17-year-old American track phenom Sadie Engelhardt became the first female athlete in the history of Arcadia Invitational to secure a winning streak for three consecutive years. Last Saturday, at the 56th Arcadia Invitational Engelhardt, she not only emerged victorious but shattered the record she herself had set in her freshman year.

In 2022, 15-year-old Sadie Engelhardt graced the track as a debutant and clocked a record-breaking time of 4:35.16 in California. And after two years she took the responsibility to make it even tougher for other athletes by breaking her own record, timing it 4:34.31 this year. She reflected on her training regime and said, “I’ve worked on my cadence and my leg speed since last year and it was definitely a good switch.”

Engelhardt further added how competing in the home state often turns out to be a positive factor. She stated, “The energy is incredible. I can definitely feel the home-state advantage. The atmosphere here is great!” However easy it might appear to all, securing the highest pedestal on the podium for the third time turned out to be quite challenging for her because of the tough competition she had to face from the athletes of Timpview High of Utah.

Two athletes from Utah, Jane Hedengren and Lily Alder, secured the second and the third position clocking a time of 4:37.17 and 4:40.82 respectively. Jane Hedengren, who is junior to the defending champion, crossed Engelhardt while they were striding toward the final 400 meters. But ultimately in the final 200 meters, with unwavering spirit Engelhardt passed by Hendergren and emerged victorious. I was a little nervous with 200 to go, but I felt strong and had a good margin at the end., said Engelhardt.
