American pole vault legend, Sandi Morris, holds her supremacy from a national team that showcases a luminary, Katie Moon. That very presence has a decipherable role in Sandi Morris’s bagful of earnings of silver medals. Eventually, in the upcoming Glasgow World Indoor Championship as well, the former Arkansas athlete will have to battle with Moon to claim the gold medal. However, if BBC’s latest argument dictates, then the upcoming fight will have to be a three-way attack between Sandi Morris, Katie Moon, and British prodigy Molly Caudery.
But eventually, the Rio Olympics medalist might prefer to keep her hand on that title for touching a historical feat. Her special preparation in the vicinity proved her motive for that.

Keeping a tab on recent forms, the USATF has included both Katie Moon and Sandi Morris on the pole vault team bound for Glasgow. Meanwhile, this year, the legendary American duo has locked their horns for two contests so far. In those fights, the first two podium rankings revolved between these two. So in such a situation, Sandi Morris is eyeing to prove her upper hand over the Tokyo Olympics champion by completing her three-peat in Glasgow. Sandi Morris might find her inspiration from her victorious endeavor against Katie Moon in the last World Indoor Championship in Belgrade. The then 29-year-old Sandi notched a 0.5 m higher vault than the reigning Olympic champion. That stellar performance unfurled unspeakable joy in the former one after facing an accidental bowing out from the Olympic trial in 2021. In the 2018 Birmingham World Indoor as well, Sandi Morris defied Katie’s challenge to win the race. But this time the stakes are high for the 3x World Championship medalist. With a three-peat in the Indoor bout, she is also rearing to participate in her third Olympic as well. So preparation has seemed to be slightly different this time.

Thinking outside the norm leads to a solution
Before embarking on the Reno bout this year, Sandi Morris resorted to special music therapy to optimize her aesthetics. Two musicians appeared to be her soul saver at that time- the Australian DJ Trumpet and Savage from another NZ. A thorough listening to the song “Freaks” from those musicians helped the pole-vault numero uno in scoring 4.82m in that Meet. “It was a huge confidence booster,” she stated subsequently.

That vault is Sandi’s best attempt since 2021. Moreover, it also dwarfed Katie Moon’s best attempt this season. That feat motivated the 1x Diamond League winner to defy the odds against the proverbial champion. Now, keeping the Glasgow Meet at stake, Sandi Morris will have to discover more such songs to keep her resolute in the meantime.
