Noah Lyles and IShowSpeed had one of the most epic and unexpected crossovers. Recently, during a livestream of the renowned YouTuber, MrBeast, he called up IShowSpeed. MrBeast revealed that he had the US sprinting phenom Noah Lyles with him. The duo challenged Speed to a race that had some of the outrageous monetary promises. According to MrBeast, the winner of the race would win a prize money of $100,000!
Initially, Speed hesitated to accept the challenge. The 19-year-old pointed out that he was quite far away in Miami miles from the venue in Orlando where Lyles and MrBeast were at the moment. Hearing the response, Lyles taunted the YouTuber, saying that he was afraid. This was when Speed decided to change his mind and agreed to drive for three hours to race with the Olympic gold medalist.
Surely enough, the race went down as expected. It was Noah Lyles who won the 50m dash and got his hands on the entire $100,000 stash. But here’s the kicker: this lighthearted showdown actually exposed a tougher reality in the track and field world. This friendly race prize on YouTube ended up more lucrative than a season of dedicated training and real-world championships. Adding to the list, Tara Davis-Woodhall’s Olympic gold medalist husband, Hunter Woodhall too, gave his two cents on the matter.

Overwhelmed by the prize money won, Hunter stated, “Noah Lyles and Speed raced for $100,000. To put it in perspective, Noah Lyles made more on this than he made winning the Indoor World Championships… 30 grand, Outdoor World Championships, 50 grand, and even the Olympic Games, which he only made 50 grand. With Team USA, he made 87.5.” Now, that’s a lot of money! But let’s break down the proper amount Noah earned in these global events.

Have an interesting take?
Noah Lyles racked up $40,000 in prize money after winning two silver medals at the 2024 Indoor Championships, each worth $20,000. He finished second in both the 60m and the 4x100m relay events. Then, at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Lyles earned $70,000 for his golds in the 100m and 200m events. As part of the winning 4x100m relay team, he earned one-fourth of $80,000, which is $20,000. On top of that, he won a cumulative prize of $87,500 after his Olympic gold medal victory—$50,000 from World Athletics and $37,500 from Team USA.
While his earnings from track and field events are seriously impressive, it’s surprising to note that these were global competitions, while MrBeast’s challenge was just a fun event thrown together at the last minute! Naturally, the Olympic and Paralympic gold medal-winning couple Tara and Hunter wanted in on the action and cash prize. So ending his video asking Speed to race against him, Hunter Woodhall stated, “He got more for 50 meter race on social media than winning the Olympic Games. Speed, come race me. Come race me.”
Tara Davis-Woodhall too chimed in sneakily, saying, “Come jump come jump.” As a matter of fact, the underpayment of athletes has been a burning issue for a long time. This was a major reason why World Athletics allocated a prize pool of $50,000 for all the athletes who won the Olympic gold. Meanwhile, amidst all the chaos, Speed has been firing warning shots at Noah Lyles.
