The track and field community has been shocked by the unexpected turn of events at the 2024 World Indoor Championships, the United States is not represented in the men’s 400m final.

The women’s 800-meter and men’s 400-meter competitions have neither seen a single runner continue to the semifinals, delivering Team USA an inconsistent start at the World Indoor Championships. A promising sprinter for the United States made a critical mistake in a 400 m event that cast light on the tragic turn of events for the American delegation. Jacory Patterson turned his attention to sprinting events after winning a gold medal in the long jump at the 2016 USATF Junior Olympics. Sharing and promulgating his loss that cost the US at the World Indoors Championships 2024, Kemal Forde expressed his sorrow and disappointment on X-handle, writing, “For the first time since 2016 no American man will be in the 400m Final at the World Indoor Championship.“

Owen M voiced his concerns about Patterson’s performance as the events took a turn for the worse, saying, “Jacory Patterson 🇺🇸 is in real danger of not making the 400m semis. A rookie mistake by easing back at the line when he had qualification secured. #WorldIndoorChamps”. Due to this error, the 400-meter men’s race had no American participation, which sparked debates in the track and field world.
