The road to Paris 2024 is gaining momentum and the country’s track and field athletes are making sure to make every opportunity count. The Sound Running has just concluded in San Juan, California and one Syracuse star is now dreaming big with her career-best finish in the women’s 10,000m event. The Olympic Team Trials will commence in Eugene, Oregon in June, and Amanda Vestri is on her way to battle it out for a spot on the national team.

The marathon leg for the Olympic team trials is already over and Team USA has its first track and field celebrities, hoping to bring honor to the country. And now, another young long-distance runner is bracing up with hopes to make it to the European metropolitan.

The Road to Paris 2024 finds its latest participant

A recent post on X (previously known as Twitter) by the official FloTrack account has shared details of Vestri’s sensational run in California from yesterday. “@a_vestri breaks the 32-minute barrier for the first time in her career to win the TrackTown Women’s 10,000m in a time of 31:54.2“, reads the caption of the post. The accompanying short video clip encapsulates the collective feelings of the audience as the commentator hails her for her endurance and impeccable start to the race.

She’s on her way to track town“, the commentary can be heard as Vestri inches closer to winning the women’s The Ten event. The crowd cheers her on with vehement vocal support and Amanda can be seen unable to hold back on a smirk. The 2x USTFCCCA First Team All-American had a previous personal best of 32:08.26 she recorded at the Cobb Track and Angell Field in Palo Alto in 2023.

Her latest win will ensure she gets a chance to represent the country by taking on the team trials later this year. With the road to Paris 2024 opening its arms to Olympic aspirants, Vestri will be heading to Oregon with eyes on the big prize. But she won’t be the only one vying for a position on the national team.

Olympic trials in Oregon getting momentum

Some of the country’s top track and field athletes are expected to light up Eugene in June with their A-games. Alicia Monson, Karissa Schweizer, and Elise Cranny all finished the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships ahead of Vestri and Amanda will surely have her work cut if she wants to edge past these heavyweights to make it to the national team. The short distance races also promise neck-to-neck competition.
