Historic achievements at the 2020 US Olympic Team Trials Marathon

USATF, the national governing body for track and field in the USA, recently posted on X, about Aliphine Tuliamuk’s remarkable achievement at the 2020 US Olympic Team Trials – Marathon. Tuliamuk showcased her prowess by clocking the second-fastest winning time in Trials history, completing the marathon in an impressive 2:27:23. Additionally, Galen Rupp made history by becoming the second man to secure back-to-back titles.

Galen Rupp won by seizing the lead from Brian Shrader after the 16-mile mark. Meanwhile, in a quest for a record fifth Olympic appearance, 43-year-old Abdi Abdirahman nearly caught up with Jacob Riley. On the women’s side, Aliphine Tuliamuk claimed the crown in 2:27:23, marking the second-fastest winning time in Trials history. She finished eight seconds ahead of Molly Seidel, with Sally Kipyego securing a third place in 2:28:52. Notably, Seidel’s subsequent Olympic bronze in Sapporo, Japan, brought a long-awaited Games moment for the U.S. women’s team, highlighting the significance of their accomplishments. However, it will be interesting to see the upcoming marathon race.

Running through history

The 2024 Olympic Trials will begin on Saturday, Feb. 3, in Orlando, Florida. The men’s race begins at 10:10 a.m. and the women’s race begins at 10:20 a.m. While the top three finishers in each race aim to secure spots on Team USA for the Paris Olympics, the intricate qualification process introduces uncertainties, considering the need to meet specific time standards or secure rankings on World Athletics’ “Road to Paris.”
