16-year-old Quincy Wilson is making ripples across the nation’s track and field circuit. Only days after setting a record in the 400m run at the New Balance Indoor Nationals, the Bullis’ star is back at it again. Taking on a longer distance for the first time at the Beach Run Invitational, the teenager didn’t look uncomfortable once and stormed into the record books once more.

Holding the world record in the U18 age group, the high schooler seems to be set to achieve some major accolades in the future. And just hours ago, Quincy once again bolstered his claim for the national team to represent the US in the Paris Olympics as he almost clocked his first sub-1:50 finish.

In a recent post by Citius Mag on Instagram, Wilson’s latest feat was shared. Captioned “1:47 loading“, the post announced Quincy’s impressive feat in South Carolina. “In his first-ever outdoor 800m, @bullis_track_fam sophomore @_quincy_wilson doubled his signature distance and ran 1:50.44 at the Beach Run Invitational in Myrtle Beach“, reads the post further. Interestingly, only last year, Quincy talked about the possibilities of the world seeing him run in 800m events.

You never know what I can do“, said Quincy in the clip from last year, when he pondered about his chances in 800m events after having completed the 600m race in 1:17. But his faith in his prowess is not misplaced.

A blinding future ahead

Along with his emphatic win at the New Balance Nationals, Wilson once again showed his mettle at the Florida Relays, where he ran 400m in a brilliant 45.19. His time surpassed his previous night’s performance (46:67). On top of that, his current record in the distance stands at 45:76, marking it as the fastest time in the under-18 category. His titillating performance has evoked reactions even from Noah Lyles. “Most kids are afraid to push through unknown barriers. He doesn’t even have barriers,” said Wilson’s coach about his skills, and it seems like the rising star is destined for greatness.

Former sprinter and Olympic veteran Justin Gatlin was also awed by Quincy’s performance in recent days. “I’m just going to say he would beat me in any era of my career in a 400“, commented Gatlin about the youngster’s ability to run the distance. With the Olympics being the ultimate prize for Quincy, he revealed his plans to take on the Team Trials in June. Now, it waits to be seen if the teenager can hold on to his form in the coming months as well.
