They say that most parents are soothsayers and prophets in their own right. That couldn’t have been more true, as Quincy Wilson’s parents epitomized that role, and more. The Hayward field witnessed the creation of a new historical record on June 21, 2024, amidst the Paris Olympic Trials 2024. The track and field realm was buzzing with excitement when its trusty godsend Quincy Wilson, a 16-year-old athlete, stormed onto the field, with his head held high and his boots raised even higher off the ground. The phenom broke the 42-year-old precious record of 44.69 seconds in the 400 m by Darrel Robinson. The young lightning bolt clocked 44.66 seconds in the U-18 400 m at Eugene, thus garnering solace and love from his parents.

It was not the first time that the world was beholding “the Quincy Wilson” charisma on the track. Wilson has dominated the New Balance National Indoor Games and finished the game with an impressive timing of 46.67 seconds in March 2023 and 45.76 seconds in 2024. What’s even more impressive is the fact that his lineage, aka his sister, is a track icon as well.

The U-18 record holder’s impressive work has compelled prominent sprinters to support and tweet him after his wins, notably Noah Lyles. At the recently held Trials, it was a watershed moment for his family as they were all up in arms, coming to him in solidarity after his sonorous win. It seemed to be a long anticipated work in the pipeline according to his parents’ intuition and hunch. As they mentioned, they knew he was going to ace it with a flourish and how. In addition to this, Wilson’s mother appreciated his efforts by quoting, “Just amazing. All his hard work, sweat, tears, all paid off for today. And I can’t say anymore that I am just proud of him and let’s keep moving. We are going forward.”

“We, We’ve been talking about this all year-about how he has the U-18 record in him. You know, he just needed an environment to be able to bring it out of him at Hayward Field, and a little bit of Hayward magic!” is what Quincy Wilson’s father suggested in context to his record-breaking win. Wilson’s joy was evident, to which the overwhelmed clan’s next line of order, the 20-year-old American athlete Kadence Wilson further added, “ I am so proud of him. I am genuinely proud of him. It almost brings tears to my eyes, and I just want him to stay focused. Stay focused in God, stay focused on his own journey. I am just so proud of him and I can’t wait to see where he goes next.” Kadence might be all praises for her brother as she has racked up a couple of tallies under her belt too.

Not just the U-18 record-holder prodigy, but Wilson’s 20-year-old elder sister, Kadence Wilson, is an aspiring star as well. The Quincy Team, as fans like to call them, has two amazing athletes who have been contributing to the track and field world religiously. His sister, during her time as the 2022-23 outdoor track season, was coincidentally the opening leg runner for the Sun Belt Championships.

Following in Junior Wilson’s footsteps, is an Olympic contention written in the stars for her? The elder Wilson has ample records already by her name in the recently organized indoor competition. In the ECAC indoor competition held in March, Kadence managed to blaze the track in 56 seconds at 400 m. Quincy Wilson might be a diminutive Usain Bolt in the making, and so is his sister. A tale of greatness? Well, look no further as this is it.
