It all came down to the Tokyo Paralympics 2024. After clinching three gold medals and setting two world records there, Nick Mayhugh faced a challenging period marked by injuries and sponsor rejections. Struggling to find his way, he reached out to Olympic star Noah Lyles for help, asking if he could join Lyles’s elite training camp in Clermont, Florida. Despite his record-breaking glory at the Tokyo Paralympics, Nick Mayhugh’s heart felt a pang of sadness. His parents, who had never ventured outside their home country, were unable to witness his historic achievement firsthand due to COVID restrictions. Reflecting on this, Mayhugh shared on X, “They’ve never been out of the country, and couldn’t watch me compete in Tokyo due to COVID.”
