After a thrilling heats at the Stade de France on August 2, many were looking forward to seeing Sha’Carri Richardson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce lock horns on the purple track. The women’s 100m semi-finals are set to take place on August 3. But the two might have come across an unexpected hurdle right before making it to warm ups. Fraser-Pryce is seen voicing out her concerns in a video on X. “She said they changed the rules yesterday. How can you change the rules, and not say?” The Jamaican sprinter can’t seem to wrap her head around this situation.

Despite not staying at the Olympic Village, athletes had no trouble entering the premises the day before. Fraser-Pryce pointed out how smoothly they passed through security. However, a recent change now requires athletes to enter through a different, more distant gate—a new rule that was not in place until today. This sudden change left fans concerned about its impact on the sprinters. One fan on X wondered aloud, “Lawd, did Shelly and Sha’Carri make it to the warm-up track???” What went down hours before their races at the venue?

An image of Richardson sitting on the curb outside the stadium also made rounds on the internet. Many fans were befuddled by this occurrence. But a video of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce updating her team added more confusion into the mix. Unbeknownst to the sprinters, they tried entering the area the same way they had on the day of the heats. But when they arrived at the gate before their semi-finals on August 3, they weren’t allowed to go through. The semi-finals have been dubbed as the most thrilling showdown at the Stade de France. But two of the most formidable foes have fallen prey to what many surmount to a simple case of miscommunication.

Sha’Carri Richardson seemed calm and composed as she waited outside the venue. However, Fraser-Pryce wasn’t too pleased by the situation, questioning if the rules differ for athletes not staying at the Olympic village. After smiling through the unfortunate situation, the Jamaican is then seen walking towards the other gate. Richardson was asked to do the same as Fraser-Pryce. What’s interesting is, people can be seen leaving the venue through said gate, they just wouldn’t let people in the same way. It has now come to light that the American has been spotted in the warm-up area. This means the 37-year-old might have made it through as well.
