Jamaican sprinter Oblique Seville has set the track alight with his breathtaking performance at the Racers Grand Prix 2024. Defying expectations, Seville stood larger than renowned sprinters Noah Lyles and Usain Bolt to claim three titles in a single triumphant performance. At the Racers Grand Prix 2024, Seville showcased his explosive speed and impeccable technique, dominating the competition in the 100m relay event. 

CITIUS MAG posted a video of the event on his X handle showing the incredible speed of Oblique Seville on track. The post was captioned, OBLIQUE SEVILLE BEATS NOAH LYLES OVER 100M IN JAMAICA IN 9.82 – WORLD LEAD”. Apart from that, Oblique Seville’s remarkable 9.82-second sprint also surpassed Usain Bolt’s 2016 record of 9.88 and outpaced Noah Lyles’ personal best of 9.83 seconds, solidifying Seville as a standout talent in the sprinting world. 

Seville, who expressed surprise at his performance after having to ease off on training due to a minor injury, surpassed his previous best of 9.86 seconds. This accomplishment secured his victory to the top of the world rankings, overtaking American Christian Miller, who had set the previous record of 9.93 seconds in April.

After the victory, Seville exclaimed, “I feel good, I’m a little surprised. It’s special to be able to run so fast without too much specific work. It shows that I can still do better.” Coached by Glen Mills, the former mentor of Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprinter, is coming up heavily as the potential heir of the legendary sprinter. Meanwhile, Usain Bolt’s another potential heir remained a few seconds away from Seville.

Noah Lyles, a close second, seems to be gaining his momentum as he clocked his 9.85 seconds after a number of sub-10-second timings. However, after the race Noah had all praise for Seville while also declaring that he was not at all surprised at the win. Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala claimed the third spot with a time of 10.02 seconds, contributing to the thrilling atmosphere of the event.

Both sprinters significantly outpaced the previous best time of 9.93 seconds set by Americans Christian Miller and Kendal Williams in 2024. Previously, Noah Lyles also expressed ambitious goals by aiming to surpass Yohan Blake’s record of 9.75 seconds, the fastest 100m time at the National Stadium during the 2012 National Championships. Despite the impressive performance, Noah Lyles eventually faced defeat after his record-breaking run.

Noah Lyles’ legacy of excellence in Meet record-breaking races

Noah Lyles, competing for the third time at the meet, is gearing up for the Paris Olympics, aiming for victory in the individual sprint double. The US sprinter, charged to victory with a 6.44-second finish in the 60m at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Boston. His personal best of 9.83 seconds in the 100m, achieved at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last year, fuels his ambition.

Lyles believes he’s closing in on those marks each year. At a press conference, he confidently expressed his desire to achieve this feat, noting that Bolt’s records are always on his mind. He expressed, “Every day, Bolt’s records are in the back of my mind.” Reflecting on his recent standout performance at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, where he set an American record of 14.41 seconds in the 150m event. Lyles emphasized consistent improvement.

He stated, “It’s one thing to hit a mark once or twice in practice, but we’ve been consistently seeing improvements week after week, run after run.” Lyles wrapped up the previous year’s meet with flair, setting a meeting record and claiming the world lead in the men’s 200m with a blistering time of 19.67 seconds. As the 2023 season concluded, Lyles emerged as one of the undisputed top sprinters globally. The upcoming Paris Olympics could see him become the first American in two decades to secure the title of the world’s fastest man.
