Reflecting on this legacy, he said, “Whatever you want to do, whatever you want to be, we can provide you the outreach and the path for you to be able to find that.” Ultimately, he hopes that when he’s gone, his family will remember him with a tattoo on his torso that says “icon,” and they’ll think, “Yeah, Granddaddy was an icon.”

Back in 2021, Lyles got the “ICON” tattooed across his torso as a constant reminder of the legacy he wants to leave behind. Cited as the ‘fastest man in the world,’ he affirmed this feat by winning gold in the 2023 World Championships in the 100m, 200m, and 4×100m relay. The following year, he won his first Olympic gold at the Paris Olympics in the 100-meter event that had the most enthralling photo finish.
