Anticipation mounts among fans as they eagerly await the thrilling competitions that are set to grace the track in New York City. The Millrose Games 2024 promises to be a showcase of unparalleled athleticism. A lineup of elite competitors is ready to leave their mark on the storied event.

Yared Nuguse, fresh off his record-breaking feats in the indoor and outdoor mile events last year, leads the charge. He’s alongside rising star Hobbs Kessler, whose recent standout performance has catapulted him into the spotlight. With athletes like Elle St. Pierre making a triumphant return, and sprint stars Christian Coleman and Andre De Grasse set to ignite the track, fans can expect nothing short of thrilling performances.

In the Men’s 60m Hurdles, Dylan Beard of USA took first place with a time of 7.44. He was followed by fellow American Daniel Roberts in second place with a time of 7.51, and Trey Cunningham, also of the USA, took third place with a time of 7.52. Beard, Roberts, and Cunningham, all representing the United States, secured the top three spots on the podium for this event.

Noah Lyles offered his congratulations to Dylan, expressing his surprise with the statement, “I was not expecting that.” according to X. Although Sha’Carri Richardson, the world’s fastest woman, is not competing today, she is present at the Armory, watching along. It’s worth highlighting that Christian Coleman has secured a remarkable three-peat record at the Millrose Games.

Initially, the stage was set for an epic showdown between Nikki Hiltz, the American record holder in the mile, and Alicia Monson, who holds the American records in the 3k, 5k, and 10k. However, anticipation soared when British sensation Laura Muir joined the lineup, adding another layer of excitement to the upcoming race. While Alicia Monson did not win the race, the 19-year-old Medina Eisa from Ethiopia initially emerged as a surprise winner with a time of 9:06.87.

However, Eisa was later disqualified and the gold was awarded to Laura Muir from Great Britain with a time of 9:04.84. Melknat Wudu of Ethiopia came in second place with a time of 9:07.12, and Alicia Monson of the USA finished third with a time of 9:07.12. Monson did set another American record with her bronze medal performance.

In an exciting race, Josh Kerr of Great Britain took gold in the Dr. Sander Men’s 2 Mile at the Millrose Games with a time of 8:00.67. American Grant Fisher followed close behind to clinch silver in 8:03.62. Rounding out the podium was Cole Hocker, another American athlete, who earned bronze after finishing in 8:05.70.

The thrilling battle saw Kerr separate himself from the pack in the final lap to secure the win. Fisher and Hocker also impressed with their sub 8:06 times to give the United States two out of the three medals. The race showcased some of the best middle distance male runners across the globe.

The Stern Family Women’s 800m at the Millrose Games came down to an exciting finish between American runners Allie Wilson and Olivia Baker. Wilson took the gold in 2:01.61 holding off Baker who clocked 2:01.91 for the silver. Rounding out the podium was Lorena Martin from Spain who earned bronze with a time of 2:01.93.

It was a close race between the top two as Wilson and Baker battled stride for stride, but Wilson had a strong kick over the last 100 meters to get the win. Baker also performed well, setting a new personal best time. The race demonstrated the depth of American middle distance running with two out of the three medalists hailing from the United States.

Women’s Wanamaker Mile

In the women’s event, Jessica Hull, who placed 7th in the 1500m at the 2023 World Championships, is also competing. Additionally, Josette Andrews achieved 5th place at the 2022 World Indoor Championship in the 1500m event. However, it’s worth noting Andrews has a strong motivation again this time. Last year, it was her first race after joining a new coaching program just a month earlier. Now, a year into the program, her coach notes significant progress.

In an inspirational performance, new mother Elle St. Pierre of the USA won gold in the NYRR Women’s Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games with a time of 4:16.41. Fresh off giving birth just months ago, St. Pierre showed her grit by holding off a competitive field. Jessica Hull of Australia clinched silver in 4:19.03 while Susan Ejore of Kenya took bronze with a 4:20.61.

St. Pierre’s gold medal so soon after becoming a new mother was a special moment. She was able to defeat Hull and Ejore in a tactical race that came down to the final laps. St. Pierre’s accomplishment demonstrates an incredible comeback so quickly after pregnancy. It’s worth noting as a recent mother, Elle St. Pierre’s victory resonated with all mothers, filling them with pride.

The NYRR Men’s Wanamaker Mile came down to an exciting finish between American runners Yared Nuguse and Hobbs Kessler. Nuguse took home the gold in 3:47.83, just ahead of Kessler who clocked an impressive 3:48.66 for silver. Rounding out the all-American podium was George Mills of Great Britain who finished in 3:48.93 to claim the bronze.

It was a back-and-forth race between training partners Nuguse and Kessler, but Nuguse had a strong final 400 meters to get the win on home soil. Only .17 seconds separated the top two finishers in a race showcasing the next generation of American milers. Mills was not far behind, demonstrating the world-class level of competition. This marks Yared Nuguse’s second victory, following his remarkable performance in 2023 where he ran the second-fastest indoor mile in history, breaking the American record.
