He even added their timing to show the world how superior they are. Stanford University alumni Fiona O’Keeffe became the first U.S. woman to win the Olympic Trials in her marathon debut.

Her stunning performance, clocking in at 2:22:10, left spectators and competitors alike in awe. In addition, expressing her astonishment and gratitude, O’Keeffe remarked, “It’s so meaningful. I was not expecting this performance. I had to pinch myself with eight miles to go.” Not far behind, Emily Sisson, a seasoned athlete with a previous Olympic 10,000-meter performance in Tokyo, secured her spot for her Olympic marathon debut.

Also, overwhelmed with emotion, Sisson stated, “I feel so emotional today. I’ve made my second Olympic team, and [my friends and family] can come with me this time.” She has clinched second place with a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 42 seconds. Also, Dakotah Lindwurm achieved a remarkable time of 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 31 seconds, showcasing her resilience and passion among the elite. However, despite the world witnessing the electrifying performance of this trio, there is a little bit of change in the marathon qualifying system by World Athletics that has gained attention.

Ahead of Paris 2024 Olympics, World Athletics adjusted marathon qualifying system

World Athletics has significantly changed the marathon qualifying system to limit the field to 80 participants in preparation for the upcoming Olympics. The new regulations stipulate that each participating country can nominate a maximum of three runners, subject to specific qualifying criteria. The updated guidelines require athletes to meet rigorous standards. This includes time standards, top-five finishes in international competitions, and ranking in the top 80.
