Acing a race in track and field is turning out to be the quickest way to rise to fame- quite literally! So is the tale of two young phenoms- Quincy Wilson and Christian Miller. Both of them had a rather eventful day today at the US Olympic Trials, which ended on a high for one, while the other walked out putting up a tough fight.
In the 400m dash, Wilson bested his timing and Darrell Robinson’s 42-year-old U-18 record by clocking a 44.66 in the opening round, followed by an even speedier 44.59 in the second one. If only the results were as favorable for the Creekside High School graduate Christian Miller, who finished fifth in the 100m finals. Nonetheless, not their skills but their young ages, 16 and 18 respectively, have won them a mention from a sprinting legend.

Taking to his X account, Michael Johnson, the 8-time world champion veteran sprinter, has highlighted a standout quality that these two rising athletes possess. On 24th June, he tweeted, “Quincy Wilson and Christian Miller both have great natural talent, but what’s most impressive is they exhibit advanced race maturity for their age.” He believes that the two have attained great stature in the sport fairly early in their careers, which is more laudable than their innate abilities.

Well, age has been a common topic of discussion when it comes to these two. Recently, the Cheetah, Tyreek Hill, took to his X account to hail Quincy Wilson. He said, “I don’t see enough people talking Quincy Wilson, bro 16 and out there competing.” This seemed a huge compliment for the Bullis High School wunderkind, who prides himself on his capacities. Post his Eugene spectacle today, Wilson boasted, ” “I pushed them today. Because they didn’t want to get beat by a 16-year-old.”
On the other hand, despite being exceptionally good at his age, Christian Miller believes he still has a lot to demonstrate. Elaborating on his future plans, Miller had recently stated, “I actually feel like i have a lot more left in the tank.” He even added, “I feel like that I’m still being trying to Peak at a certain point.” While Johnson has commended them for their race maturity, the boys seem certain that they haven’t reached the brink of it.

However, Johnson’s appreciation seems justified. For two ‘high school boys’ to be competing against renowned sports stars and restricting them is remarkable. Let’s take a look at what all the hype is about.
A glimpse of Quincy Wilson and Christian Miller’s recent records
In the 100m dash at the Olympic Trials, Christian Miller competed against mega names like Noah Lyles, Christian Coleman, Kenny Bednarek, and others. He put up a spectacular show, banking on the skills he had acquired so far. Moreover, earlier this year, he clocked a sub-10 time in 100m at the Pure Athletics Invitational in Florida. Registering a 9.93 second record, he became the fastest American under-20 athlete. ‘I feel great’ is what the youngster had remarked on this marvelous feat.

As for Quincy Wilson, he seems on a record-shattering spree. He recently stunned the track and field world with his 45.13 400m time at the New Balance National Outdoors. And then, with his opening run at Eugene for the Trials, he topped the U-18 world record list. This feat was rather historic, as he surpassed the legendary athletes Usain Bolt and Kiran James in the junior category. And now, yet again, he has bested his numbers, despite running against experienced stars like Michael Norman.
