The Jamaican dream is shaping up rather nicely for the upcoming 2024 Olympics, and a lot of it resides on the broad shoulders of Shericka Jackson. The 200m sprint specialist has numerous accolades on her resume but still is in search of her maiden Olympic gold in the individual 100m race. However, her ambitions just got a major blow at the Jamaican Team Trials in Kingston.

The 2023 World Championships gold medalist was handed a major defeat in the second semifinal of the women’s 100m sprint by a teenager who is a World U20 Championships gold medalist relay racer. Track & Field Gazette shared 19-year-old Tia Clayton’s impressive feat with an emphatic post on X: “10.86s!! 19-year-old Tia Clayton has just run a massive Personal Best (PB) of 10.86s (+1.0) to win semifinal 2 of the women’s 100m at the Jamaican Olympic Trials!”

Jackson, on the other hand, came in second in the race clocking 10.87 seconds.
