Olympic gold medalist's big announcement—Can they outshine Sha'Carri Richardson in the upcoming Grand Slam?

Sha’Carri Richardson is still maintaining her silence in joining the women-only track event, Athlos NYC meet, the brainchild of Alexis Ohanian. After facing defeat in the Diamond League final in Brussels, the American sprinter is yet to disclose anything, particularly on her next endeavor. However, the same can’t be said of her practicemate. Instead, she already feels hyped, announcing her grand target for the next season.

On September 19, Grand Slam Track, another ambitious project on track sports waiting to be unveiled, announced Melissa Jefferson’s name as the second woman to join the league. The Paris Olympics medalist will enter the contest as a competitor in the “short sprints” category (100m/200m). Notably, last week, the same category saw Fred Kerley and Kenny Bednarek join. Now, with Melissa and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone on the side, Michael Johnson’s track project seems to be on cloud nine, making a fitting advertisement. Additionally, Jefferson felt fortunate to sign up for such a league.

Today while re-sharing her joining update, the 23-year-old posted on X, So excited and blessed to have an opportunity like this . See yall good folks in 2025.” And that’s not all. It seems to be a dream come true moment for the athlete who has climbed the ladder fast.

This year, Melissa showed mettle not only in the 100m events but also in the relay events. Even in the Bahamas, she came out to be the vital cog of the women’s 4x100m relay quartet who punched their ticket for the Paris Olympics. Now, she is up for another commendable stage that may add a scintillating chapter in her career: The Grand Slam Track where she has the follower of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the two-time Olympic champion and arguably the best name in the women’s track event right now.

Therefore, Jefferson’s emotions ran high. She went on conceding, “I’m delighted to have signed with Grand Slam Track, and cannot wait to get started with this incredibly exciting league. The opportunity to be a part of a project like this – which is changing our sport for the better, forever – is an honor and a privilege…” But now the question is, would she inspire Sha’Carri Richardson to join the same opportunity?

That evoked the chance of seeing her in the revolutionary women’s track and field contest. Even in several cases, the Reddit founder has named SCR for playing an instrumental role in increasing his interest in the field. However, nothing concrete has come from Sha’Carri to enter the meet. The same applies to the Grand Slam Track.
