The World Athletics Championships in Budapest saw some remarkable performances from the track and field athletes from all participating countries. But the pièce de résistance of the championships undoubtedly came from the American sprinters. Noah Lyles carried the torch for the American team and won three gold medals. However, another U.S. track and field legend put on an equally impressive display.

Both Adidas athletes triumphed at the World Athletics Championships, but the latter’s win was even more special than Noah’s. That’s because the American team had not won the 100m hurdle in the last two World Championships. The athlete described the lack of wins as a “drought” but fortunately, he could break the streak and hit the trifecta.

We are talking about the legendary Grant Holloway, who celebrated his back-to-back victories in the 110-meter hurdles in front of the cameras. He raised one finger after another three times to indicate the three gold medals to his name. The American hurdler achieved a fast start in the event and breezed past the finish line in 12.96 seconds.

Grant Holloway won his first gold medal in 2019 at the Doha World Championships, followed by another in Oregon. The Adidas athlete was recently featured in a video uploaded by the footwear brand. A blogger named ‘Track Spice’ shared the video on X (formerly Twitter) with the post, “Grant Holloway’s golden collection”.

In the video, Holloway carried a mechanically locked briefcase, which he opened to reveal his most cherished treasures. As he opened the case, the world champion was bathed in a warm golden light.

Holloway stared at the contents of the case, admiring them while someone from behind the camera asked him, “We happy?” However, the track and field ace was too preoccupied with the case’s contents to hear the question. The unidentified man asked again, “Grant, we happy?”

At this, he looked up from the case and, with a proud smile on his face, replied, “Yeah, we happy”. Then, the camera panned in to capture the contents of the case, which were none other than his three gold medals. Each of these medals represented a significant achievement in Holloway’s track and field journey, but the last one was more special.

Grant Holloway honors an all-time great athlete

Grant Holloway saw pictures of himself alongside Greg Foster as we lined up for the 110-meter finals in Budapest. Greg Foster won the first World Championships in its first year of existence in 1983. He won two more World titles in 1987 and 1991. Foster was the only athlete who won three golds in a row. Greg Foster sadly passed away in February 2023, and Holloway wanted to honor his memory by matching his record.

After the race, Holloway remarked on his feelings during the event, saying, “I felt no pressure at all, just wanted to run cleanly and stay calm at the finish line”. The great track and field hero has not allowed this victory to go to his head and has begun training for the rest of the season. With this, the hurdling star has promised more exciting performances to follow.
