Noah Lyles has had a great track and field run in the 2023 season. The American sprinting prodigy became the triple world champion by standing atop the podium in 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m relay on the tracks of Budapest. However, it was not a great end to a magnificent season, as he had to face a defeat in the final event of the year. It was his American rival Christian Coleman who outperformed Lyles in the finals of the Diamond League, aka the Prefontaine Classic 2023.

The Florida-based runner had to settle for second place on day one of the finals. However, the reigning world champion again appeared on day two at Hayward Field, and this time he did not participate in the race. He joined the commentary box and shared his views with the commentators. While the 200-meter pack was lining up for the meet, Lyles revealed a runner to watch out for at the upcoming Paris Olympics, and it is not the defending champion Andre De Grasse.

“It’s definitely the guy to look out for.” These were the words of Noah Lyles when he was talking about the young American runner Erriyon Knighton. A video of the same has been posted by NBC Sports on their YouTube channel.

The moment came after the sprinters were gearing up for the race at Hayward Field. During a closeup of Knighton on camera, the commentator remarked that every time he spoke with him and witnessed his significant growth, he believed, “This guy is going to be a problem for Noah next year.”

To this, Lyles adds, “I mean, he’s young, and everybody’s going to be like, you know, the age is definitely something he’s going to grow into, and he is doing it right now.” He further adds that he wants him to keep growing into the athlete that Knighton is becoming.

Knighton’s performances have earned Lyles’ appreciation for his talent. In such a short span, the 19-year-old Florida-based runner has left an indelible mark on the track and field realm.
